DJ Casio Hardcore (aka Tommy B) |
Casio Hardcore (known in some circles as Tommy Boylston)
has been annoying people with loud and obnoxious noises since 1987 as both an artist as well as a DJ. Growing up
in South Florida in the mid-to-late 80's gave him first hand exposure to the Miami Bass scene and all the amazing
sounds that it had to offer...
"I was your typical white suburban nerd listening to
Public Enemy, Run DMC, Schooly D, Kool Moe Dee, and one day in school (sometime around 1985-86 if memory serves
me right), this kid had me listen to a song on his cassette Walkman and song happened to be We Want Some Pu$$y by
the 2 Live Crew and I was absolutely blown away. It was raunchy, dirty, and had this sound that was so infectious,
I ended up draining the kids Walkman batteries from playing it over and over. I made copies of the cassettes that
I had and made homemade mix tapes (mostly shit I taped off the radio) and traded them for 2 Live Crew and Jam Pony
mixes and thus my lust for Miami Bass and electro was born. I remember being 12 or 13 and riding my bike to a music
store (the now defunct Boca Music) and inquiring the salesman on how to get that really low-low bass sound and he
explained to me that it was from an 808 drum machine (which meant nothing to me at the time) and this further fueled
my interest in music. That year for my birthday, I received one of the greatest gifts off all times; a Casio SK-5 sampler..."
Although a die-hard fan of old-school hip-hop, Miami Bass,
and electro, my musical tastes are all over the map. I love drum & bass, IDM, synthpop, disco, elecro-house,
industrial, new wave, glitch, punk, digital hardcore, ambient, gabber, space jazz, J-Pop, etc and my DJ sets
really reflect that.
When I'm not mixing !@#$ up here at dYgYtAl Radio, I'm
usually locked in the lab, working on beats, and sequencing synthesizers for whatever musical adventure that I'm
on at that particular moment.
